Constellations ASBL – Inclusive Care Homes for People with Disabilities in Belgium

Supporting Constellations means giving a dignified and fulfilling future to people with intellectual disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, dual diagnoses*, and multiple disabilities.

For over 20 years, Constellations ASBL has been financing and building day and night care homes across Belgium.

Our mission: to create new inclusive accommodation places and respond to the urgent need for inclusion and family support.

Our Achievements Since 2008

Between 2008 and 2028, Constellations will have created 19 homes, representing 574 care places:

  • 244 already open

  • 330 currently in development

These initiatives, carried out independently or in partnership with other associations, represent nearly 25% of all existing places in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Key Milestones

2006 – 2013: first homes (Les Bolets, Artémia, Orféa).

Because waiting lists remained far too long, Constellations then decided to accelerate the creation of new places by supporting projects developed by other associations.

Since 2014, Constellations has brought its expertise to steering committees and provided financial support, enabling faster realization of these projects.

Projects must first be approved by a subsidizing authority and comply with the Constellations Charter, which guarantees respect for the fundamental rights of every person with a disability.

2014 – 2024: 7 homes in partnership (Villa Pilifs, Farra Stratégie, Artos, CREB Anderlecht, Les Piloux, La Maisonnée, Les Anémones).

Today: 6 active projects (CREB Woluwe – day & residential center, La Forestière, Atipi, Farilu, Les Aubépines). These homes are at an advanced stage, with construction expected to begin in 2026.

In addition, we have just incorporated three new projects, two of which (Le Bois Marcelle and Les Foyers de Bothey) are well advanced thanks to the immediate impact of our assistance.

  • Le Bois Marcelle,
  • Le Foyers de Bothey
  • Le Renivaux.

👉 Each home created also generates local jobs, especially for recent graduates in the medical-social sector.

Tailored Care for Specific Needs

Our inclusive homes offer a variety of solutions for:

  • Young adults seeking adapted places.

  • People with a dual diagnosis (intellectual + psychiatric conditions).

  • Children and adults with multiple disabilities (mental + physical).

  • Children with autism, including those in early childhood.

  • Infants in inclusive nurseries (crèche inclusive).

  • Elderly people needing a safe and adapted living environment.

👉 Today, the 10 homes already open are fully operational, subsidized, and autonomous.

An Unprecedented Challenge

Never before have we managed so many projects simultaneously.

The international and economic context makes this challenge even more difficult, but we firmly believe that together, we can provide more inclusive housing for families in urgent need👉 Your support is essential:

THEATER 2026

What an evening!

On Tuesday evening, 12 May, Constellations staged its annual performance at the Théâtre des Galeries,

under the High Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Paola for the 18th consecutive year.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Ministers Coppieters and Laaouej.

The theatre was packed with 900 people in attendance; the play was a resounding success,

there was constant laughter and the actors were superb in their roles. The auction and raffle also made many people happy.

Two cheques for €300,000 were presented to two new projects: Maison Atipi in Brussels and Les Aubépines in Wallonia. Another step towards our goal: by the end of 2028, 19 homes will have been built and opened, providing nearly 600 places for

people with intellectual disabilities. It’s tangible, it’s real, and it’s thanks to you.

The 5 projects currently in tender (CREB (2), La Forestière, ATIPI, Farilu)

Following lengthy negotiations as part of the public tender and a negotiated procedure, the dossiers for Creb’s two houses , La Forestière and Atipi, are now with the Cocof or the Cocom for final approval.

We hope for final approval from the relevant ministers by 15 July, so that work can begin at the start of the new school year.

As regards Farilu, the negotiated procedure has been successfully concluded and the file was submitted to the Cocof at the beginning of June.

Les Aubépines, Le Bois Marcelle and Les Foyers de Bothey

These projects are progressing very quickly. The tenders for Les Aubépines and Le Bois Marcelle have yielded positive results; a contractor has been selected or will be selected in the coming days, and work should be able to start in the autumn.
